How Cherub Started
Inspired by the post-disco era of the ‘80s, Cherub was formed by two friends, Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber. The duo met each other for the first time at the Nashville Shores, a water park in Nashville while riding boogie boards in the wave pool. Both connected over their same interests in music. The guys stayed friends for five years before they thought of pursuing music professionally and formed a group, Cherub. They soon began to perfect their production skills by using softwares like, Pro Tools, Reason and Ableton.
While they were learning how to produce beats, Cherub decided to build their fan base through word of mouth and began performing gigs around their hometown. They played shows consistently, creating a massive buzz and before long, they were being asked to perform at major festivals including, South by Southwest, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo. During this time, the guys recorded their first extended play, ‘Man of the Hour’ which came out through Elm & Oak on January 1, 2011. This EP was packed with up-tempo songs and included hits like, Disco Inferno, Love You Right, Remember the Good Times, Goodbye Winter and Dirty Cockroaches.
Making Their Presence Felt
Cherub didn’t wait for much long to release their next masterpiece and dropped their first full-length studio album, ‘MoM & DaD’ in 2012. The album saw them experiment with their signature style and contained some elements of pop and rock. That helped the group produce twelve hypnotizing hits for this record including, Xoxo, Roxxy and Hold Me. They refused to slow down their pace and put out their second extended play, ‘100 Bottles’ which arrived in the stores on March 5, 2013. The EP composed of six songs, Heartbreaker, Jazzercise ’95, Do I (Where We Are), Promises, Where We Should Be and Drowzzzy. Out of these tracks, the duo released the music video of, Heartbreaker on October 15, 2013.
Following the release of ‘100 Bottles,’ Cherub announced to perform a handful of live shows throughout the month of October before coming out with their third EP in the same year. Titled, ‘Antipasto,’ this extended play is their first release through Columbia Records. The EP was composed of four tracks including their breakthrough song, Doses & Mimosas. The track turned out to be a massive success around the world and their lives changed forever. The track reached twenty third spot on the Alternative Songs chart and received over twenty million hits on YouTube. It also topped The Hype Machine chart.
In May of 2014, Cherub issued their sophomore studio effort, ‘Year of the Caprese.’ The album featured twelve songs on the track-list including, Chocolate Strawberries, Work the Middle, Simple and This Song is For You. Before the year could end, the duo shared their fourth EP with the world entitled, ‘Leftovers’ which was made up of five songs.
