The year 2000 saw the Oar’s releasing their album Souls Aflame with Gizmo Recording. Soon after its release the album became the talk of the town that too without much effort on the advertising and marketing front. Songs like Night Shift, It was a Crazy Game of Poker and City on Down became the greatest hits of its time, amazingly just by the word of mouth. The band has played a numerous shows over the years and apparently this strategy did seem to pay off especially when their third album Risen saw itself on number 11 on the top internet sales Billboard Chart. Oar with their fourth album, Any Time Now once again came out with a bang and landed on the Billboard 200. Having successfully released their first four albums, the band got many offers from big recording labels but they choose Lava Records on the promise that they will not be asked to make any changes in the band. The reason why they have been so successful right from the start has been the commitment to their music and the conviction that music is primary and success follows.
Oar released the number 40 on Billboard 200, Stories of a Stranger their fifth album in 2005. This fifth album gave the band their first topping charts, the singles such as Lay Down, Love and Memories and Heard the World , won them airing on the radio, in Modern Rock Tracks the number 30 and the number 40 in Adult Top 40. The videos from two songs of the album namely Lay Down and Love and Memories also got significant airplay on MTV and VH1.
By attracting as many as 18,000 fans at the Madison Square Garden, New York in January 2006, Oar’s got to the new peak of fame. The 2006 performance also earned them a critical appreciation review in New York Times. By the year 2006 Oar had successfully sold as many as 1.2 million copies of their albums, as per their press release. Much of the bands success comes from their massive performances and their succeeding online downloading.
Oar released their sixth album in July 2008 titled All Sides. Following the release of All Sides on June 13, the band released the album’s first radio single Shattered for downloading, much to the liking of its fans. The single beat Love And Memories on Adult Top 40 as it landed on number 2. The video for Shattered also was named by VH1 in 2008 as number 18 on the channel’s Top 40 Videos of 2008. The band went a step forward while it’s tour on promoting the album All Sides and released the songs from the album and the live performance on a Wristband USB during the same year. Recently in 2010 the band has released another hit live album named Rain or Shine. Oar has also hinted at working on another album and its release later in 2010. This album they say is from the same producer, Matt Wallace, who is behind their famous album, All Sides.
The band along with producing some of the best sounding music is also involved in charity work and is working for a veteran service organization, Paralyzed Veterans of America, in collaboration with SAIC, one of the major US Defense Contractors. The band raises funds for the assistance of paralyzed veteran through the online sales of their song Light Switch Sky. The song has immense significance as it was co-written by the band members and the fans on Twitter.
