Tourists always make a beehive for the Las Vegas Strip; such is the place’s perky party atmosphere. The 4.2-mile strip on Las Vegas Boulevard exudes an irreplaceable sense of grandeur and cool comfort, with an awesome array of Las Vegas shows lined up. The casinos and hotels are plush and regal, and performers like Mac King (arguably America’s greatest comedy magician) add to the place’s positive vibe. His bag of tricks is complemented by Nunsense, the renowned musical, and the world’s longest-running game-show The Price is Right. The shows are all world-beaters in their respective genres, giving fans with Las Vegas shows tickets the right to expect nothing but the very best.
The boulevard stretching from Fremont Street to I-125 is awash with high-rise buildings and resorts standing proud in all their glory. Bally’s is home to The Price is Right. America’s favorite game show had an initial airing from 1956 to 1965 with Bill Cullen hosting. The show underwent a complete reformation with Bob Barker in 1972, with his trademark booming voice and the show’s unpredictable nature winning many admirers. Drew Carey has taken over since Barker’s 2007 retirement. Mac King developed his interest in magic from his grandfathers Elwood Huffman and Pax King, both amateur magicians. During college, his two-man act with Lance Burton was innovative. Later he caught the eye in stand-up shows like Comic Strip Live and became a national phenomenon in NBC’s The World’s Greatest Magic, developing his unique humorous brand. Nunsense was created by Dan Goggin in 1985. The musical comedy tells the story of five nuns of a missionary order running a French leper colony when disaster strikes through accidental vichyssoise poisoning. The Mother Superior has a vision to raise money for the victims’ burial through opening a greeting card company, but a successful campaign is followed by overspending on luxuries, following which the financial deficit has to be erased through staging a nun-organized variety show. Cue utter mayhem.
Goggin contributed book, lyrics and music to Nunsense, eventually turning the concept into a cabaret and then a musical. It premiered at Cherry Lane Theater in 1985. Harrah’s sellout performer Mac King is the only magician to appear on all productions of The World’s Greatest Magic. Accolades include "Magician of the Year" by Hollywood’s Magic Castle and being voted 6th Best Show in entire Las Vegas. The Price is Right has won five Emmys for Outstanding Game-show. The exciting bidding, pricing, and Showcase Showdown segments mean it enters its 40th season.
Nunsense is the second longest-running off-Broadway production, spawning six sequels and three spin-offs. Las Vegas Hilton hosts Nunsense’s shows. The Price is Right’s fame is propelled by active audience participation and King’s comedy antics interspersed with his awe-inspiring magic ensure a live spectacle.
