ASAP Rocky is a rapper of African American descent and he was born and raised in New York City. His birth name is Rakim Mayers which is inspired from the legendary rapper Rakim. While Rocky was just eight years old he started taking interest in rap music and he was influenced by the music of popular rap group The Diplomats that belonged to his birth neighborhood Harlem. His main genre is hip hop and some other artists that ASAP Rocky cites as his influence are Bon Thugs N Harmony, Wu-Tang Clan, Run DMC and Three 6 Mafia.
