The Offspring traces its roots back to the year 1983. It was the time when "Greg Kriesel" and "Bryan Holland" teamed for the first time and started to jam together. Those jamming sessions took the shape of a group named "Manic Subsidal." More people were added over the next few years. The group’s name changed to The Offspring in the year 1986.
Later that year, they came out with their first track which was titled "I’ll Be Waiting/Blackball." They followed that up by recording two demo tapes before hitting the studio to work on their self-titled debut album. The album received positive reviews from multiple critics but didn’t do too well on the commercial front. In 1992, The Offspring came out with their next album "Ignition" which did fairly well commercially.
The moderate success of the album gave the group enough confidence to hit the studios once again for their next release. "Smash" hit the music stores in the year 1994 and turned out to be a huge hit. Songs like "Self Esteem," "Come Out and Play" and "Gotta Get Away" were big hits. Smash was a rage that had fans and critics raving about it. The album has since gone on to sell well over six million copies in the United States alone to be crowned six times platinum. It has done even better globally by totaling over twenty million copies in sales. What makes the success all the more remarkable is the fact that Smash was an independent label release. Its sales figures make it the most successful album when it comes to releases by independent labels.
"Ixnay on the Hombre" was released two years later and it didn’t disappoint either. It was different than its predecessor in the sense that the sound was more mainstream rock. The effort was appreciated by everyone across the board. The album sold more than five million copies and earned five times platinum certification in the United States to make it the group’s second successive multi-platinum hit.
The follow-up album, "Americana" came out on 17th November, 1998. The album sold well over one hundred and seventy five thousand copies in the first week alone. Americana went over five millions in terms of sales in the U.S. and topped that figure by another ten million globally. Riding on a wave of success The Offspring went on an epic world tour. They made their way to the studio again after that and came out with "Conspiracy of One," their next album. It sold more than million copies to go platinum.
"Splinter" came out in 2003 and was certified gold for its efforts. "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace" was another gold certified release that hit the music stores in the year 2008 to cement the group’s place at the top as one of the truly iconic punk group.
The Offspring over the years have been giving amazing music to their fans. They have sold well over forty million copies around the globe to join the company of the greatest punk artists of all time. They have been at the top for years and are still not showing signs of stopping anytime soon. They have hit the road once again, so book The Offspring tickets and watch them perform live for an experience you will not forget.
