About Houston Livestock Show And Rodeo Tickets

An Interesting History

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is also known as HLSR and it traces its roots back the early part of the 1930s. In reality, the seeds for its formation were planted quite a few years earlier. In the early part of the twentieth century the breed of American Brahmans began to be developed by the ranchers that were based in the region of Houston. Then came the inception of the American Brahman Breeders Association in the 1920s which was the creation of James W. Sartwelle.

In the first month of 1931, Sartwelle met with a few businessmen to give the ranchers a platform to showcase their breeds. That meeting eventually resulted in the formation of the Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exposition.

The First Edition and Growth

The inaugural edition of the livestock exposition took place in the year 1932 and lasted for a week. It is estimated that close to twenty thousand people turned up at the event. The Future Farmers Band performed at the event too.

That was the start of an event that has gone on to become the biggest of its kind. Not only were more attractions and competitions added to the HLSR but the venue changed too multiple times because it outgrew all those arenas after a few years. It is now held at the NRG Stadium.

The Big Stars Turn Up

At first, for quite a few years only local performers used to get the nod from the management to perform at the HLSR. Then in 1942, that trend was bucked for the first time when the legendary Gene Autry perform there. That paved the way for other big names to perform there too. Bon Jovi, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Beyonce, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Gath Brooks and Demi Lovato are just a few names from a very long list of superstars that have performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo over the course of its illustrious history.

An Event Unlike Any Other

The HLSR witnessed its biggest turnout in 2017 and the next edition is expected to surpass even those numbers. More than thirty thousand volunteers are needed to run the show every year. With the next edition now not too far away, preparations have begun for it to take center stage once again.
