Steel blades glinting in the bright lights, slashing up the ice. Wooden sticks being used to savagely attack the puck for the sheer thrill of the game. Participants decked out in full body armor bristling with the brute force that sets the pace of the duel. Rather than being a depiction of a bloody animal hunt, it is a hard, cold take at the sport of ice hockey.

Tracing its origins back to the Middle Ages and various regions, the modern form of ice hockey developed at the turn of the 19th century and now enjoys prominence as part of the International Ice Hockey Federation. However, its popularity and competitiveness have been greatly increased by the North American National Hockey League (NHL), which includes teams such as the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs are part of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the NHL and have been gaining fame (and fortune) since their creation coinciding with World War I.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are credited with being one of the Original Six teams that were responsible for crafting the NHL out of the previous body, the National Hockey Association (NHA). Starting out as the ‘Toronto Blueshirts’ under the NHA, the Maple Leafs soon found their ownership being taken on by the arena company, and were titled the Toronto Arena Hockey Club. After a tumultuous two-decade period, The Leafs finally settled into their new home arena of Maple Leaf Gardens.
During the Great Depression decade, the Toronto Maple Leafs had a chance at taking the NHL championship cup five times but could not translate any of these into a victory. However, the following decade saw the Leafs blossom, winning the Stanley Cup four times, including three consecutive years from 1947-49. The 1960s saw the Maple Leafs take the Stanley Cup again in 1967, with outstanding performances from the likes of Jim Pappin, who also won the ‘Most Valuable Player’s Conn Smythe Trophy’. Since then, the Leafs have not won an NHL final, but have still managed to win over a dozen Stanley Cups.
Throughout the 20th century, the Toronto Maple Leafs have had numerous farm teams that have developed young players into full-fledged members of the Leafs. From the Syracuse Stars and the Pittsburgh Hornets in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s to the current feeders, the Toronto Marlies and Reading Royals, the Leafs have been able to cultivate players such as Mats Sundin, who retired with an impressive goal score of just under a thousand, averaging one goal for every game played.
Making their current home in the Air Canada Center, the Toronto Maple Leafs are often seen taking on their long-time rivals, the Montreal Canadians, whilst being cheered on by some 18,810 roaring fans, including their mascot, Carlton the Bear. So, book your Toronto Maple Leafs tickets now to witness the clash of these modern-day gladiators in an icy arena. Players all dressed in blue and white, skating on the ice, fighting for the goal; it’s a game of ice hockey with the Toronto Maple Leafs in action. Coached by Ron Wilson, the team has won 13 Stanley Cups and 5 Division Championships to date. Known for taking on the toughest challenges, the Leafs keep the competition hot until the last moment. Have you ever experienced the heat on a cold surface? Well, the Toronto Maple Leafs give you this chance to feel the fuming rivalry for the game of ice hockey. So, get your Toronto Maple Leafs tickets right now!
