The Washington Capitals were formed in 1974 and are owned by Ted Leonsis, the former head of AOL. David traded Ryan Walter and Rick Green for Rod Langway, Brian Engblom, Doug Jarvis, and Craig Laughlin of the Montreal Canadiens. Langway dramatically reduced the goals against of the team, while Dennis Maruk, Mike Gartner, and Bobby Carpenter worked on the scoring side of the team. Consequently, the team jumped up to 29 points on the roster for ice hockey. The Capitals won games in the Eastern Conference series of 1997. During the same season, the players Oates, Phil Housley, and Dale Hunter scored their 1,000th point, a historic record for three players from the same team. The team won back-to-back games in 2026 and 2026 of the Southeast Division.
