Masters Golf Tournament Sunday Competition Tickets

Masters Golf Tournament Sunday Competition, known simply as The Masters Tournament, is among the four major professional golf championships. The event is held in the first week of April and marks every year’s first major championship event. The Masters, unlike the other three major championships, is scheduled at the same place each year; the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The tournament is a money event covering three tours, namely the PGA Tour, the Japan Golf Tour and the European Tour. Since the event is invitational and organized by the Augusta Golf Club, its field of players is much smaller than that of the other championships. To the excitement of golfing fans, the tournament has several traditions and follows the Stroke Play format, offering a prize fund of eight million dollars. Masters Golf Tournament Sunday Competition tickets have always been and continue to be a sought-after treat among golf fans since many years.

About Masters Golf Tournament Sunday Competition

The Masters Golf Tournament Sunday Competition was begun by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts in 1934 under the title, ‘Augusta National Invitational’ Tournament. It all started with Jones who planned building a golf course following his retirement. He took advice from Roberts, who was later named the club’s chairman. The two hired Alister MacKenzie to assist in designing the course, beginning work in 1931. The course opened formally in Augusta, Georgia in 1933 and is counted among the best golf clubs of the world. In the Golf Digest of 2009, the course topped the list of hundred greatest courses in America. It was also ranked as the tenth best course in 2011 by Golfweek Magazine’s list of USA’s best classic courses in terms of their architecture. Since the Augusta National first opened, it has undergone various modification projects by different architects and is thus quite well-maintained and architecturally up to date.

Masters Golf Tournament Sunday Competition has many prized traditions, among which is the green jacket awarded to the tournament’s champion, since 1949. The jacket must be returned to the clubhouse after a year upon completing the player’s victory time. In most cases, the jacket is only taken from the club by a first-time champion. Another tradition is the Champions Dinner, which was inaugurated in 1952 by Ben Hogan and is held before the tournament on a Tuesday. It is only open to past champions alongside selected board members of Augusta Gold Club.  Legendary golfers, mostly past champions, have been hitting honorary tee shots on first rounds’ mornings since 1963. These golfers have included the likes of Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen, Jock Hutchinson and Fred McLeod. Since 1960, Augusta National grounds have been holding semi-social par three contests on its par three course, which have been held a day before the start of the Masters Tournament.

Jack Nicklaus has won the most Masters Tournaments, winning as many as six times during 1963 and 1986. Other players to have won multiple times include Tiger Woods and Arnols Palmer with four wins each; San Snead, Jimmy Demaret, Nick Faldo, Phil Mickelson and Gary Player, with three wins each. More record-setters of the tournament include Guan Tianlang, who in 2013 became the youngest competitor of the Masters at fourteen. He also became the youngest player to execute the golf cut at Masters as well as any other men’s major golf championship. On the other hand, the oldest player to win the Masters is Nicklaus, who was forty-six years old when he marked his win in 1986. The record for most appearances is held by Gary Players, who played fifty-two times. He also made the highest number of back-to-back cuts, making twenty-three from 1959 to 1982.

Though the Masters tickets are not pricey, they are difficult to get. In fact, the event’s popularity is such that even the practice rounds are not easy to get into and applications for these tickets are made a year earlier. Masters Golf Tournament Sunday Competition tickets are prestigious and rare treat, so get started in trying to book yours.
