This minor league baseball team from Greensboro, North Carolina is the Class A team of the South Atlantic League. Greensboro Grasshopper is playing the professional baseball from the last more than 100 years now. Although the Hoppers have not won any Division title yet but they have the credit of winning the first ever Piedmont League held in 1920. In 1925, the Hoppers won the North Carolina League title. Grasshopper is the current mascot of the team. The team's status of being a nursery for the new baseball talent, demands its game to be both kickass and professional. The looks and costumes of the Grasshopper change from season to season. Hopefully, unlike Hornet and Bat, Grasshopper will find his way to the love lounge of the fans hearts. The darker teal green shade of the team's uniform and logo is very appealing to the eyes and its perfect contrast with white and orange makes it one of the best uniforms among all the baseball teams.

The Greensboro Grasshoppers are fond of being called with new names every few years. Their first official name was the Greensboro Patriots. Hoppers kept this name for some years and became the Greensboro Pirates in the mid 50s. Perhaps their fans didn't accept them as the Pirates so the team was switched to the old name "the Patriots". In the late 50s, the Hoppers caught the Yankee virus and consequently named themselves the Greensboro Yankees but after a decade had to switch back to being the Patriots again. Hoppers finally found a valid reason to change their names once again. It was their name clash with the New England Patriots. This time the name Hornet was suggest, which was happily accepted by their fans. Although the team tried another name i.e. Greensboro Bats before switching to the Hoppers, but Hornets is what they are still sometimes called with.

The Hoppers currently play home games at the NewBridge Bank Park. The World War Memorial Stadium has served as the team's home ground from 1930 till 2005. The lush turf of the stadium normally favors the batting side more. The site can cater approximately seven and a half thousand people for a basketball game. Bank park stadium is the biggest among the South Atlantic Leagues teams' ballparks.
