Playing in the international league, Buffalo Bisons play as the Triple A affiliates of the New York Mets. The Team originally came into existence in 1979, and presently they play their home games at the Coca Cola Field. The history of the franchise, and all the other franchises by the same name, is rooted back to the original Buffalo Bisons that remained active from 1879 to 1885 as the member of the National League. The team started off as a major league franchise, but in 1886 they went into minor league baseball and joined International League subsequently. Bisons had a shot at becoming a major league team once again when they joined Western League in 1899. But the following year, Western League decided to change its name from Western League to American League. But in favor of Boston Americans, the league bumped the Buffalo Bisons as soon as the 1901 season kicked off. However, Bisons made their comeback to the minors also in the same year.

About Buffalo Bisons

After their comeback, Bisons started their play as the members of International League once again, which was known as the Eastern League around that time. But unfortunately, Bisons’ comeback was short lived as the team had to relocate to Winnipeg, Manitoba because of its poor attendance. After the relocation, the team was renamed to Winnipeg Whips. After failing to do well in Winnipeg as well, the team later moved to Hampton, Virginia until finally being suspended following the 1973 season.
The minor league baseball made its return to Buffalo when a Double A franchise from Eastern League relocated to the city in 1979. The team revived the name of Bisons, and after playing in Eastern League till 1985, the franchise was promoted to Triple-A Status. After the promotion, Wichita Aero’s rights were handed over to Buffalo, and so Bisons joined the American Association. Buffalo Bisons became the members of International League once again, after American Association folded in 1997.
After the revival of the team, Bisons have made two playoff appearances so far. Bisons also shocked the fans when they pulled off an amazing stunt of claiming their Division title in 2004. After sweeping Durham Bulls in the first round playoff, Bisons moved on to go up against the Richmond Braves for the Governor’s Cup finals, at Bison’s home field. With the home field advantage, Bisons claimed their second Governor’s Cup after defeated Braves in four games.
During that time, Bisons played as the affiliates of Cleveland Indians, but after the conclusion of 2008 season, they left Indians and initially signed an agreement to be affiliated with Columbus Clippers. But then later, the team signed an agreement with the New York Mets. The news was made official on December 16, 2008 that the Bisons would now be playing as the affiliates of New York Mets. Playing their home games at the Coca Cola Field, Buffalo Bisons are all ready to step in for their current season. So Buffalo Bisons tickets are calling out on all the Bisons’ fans to support their team.
