About Chicago Fire

The name of the club is based on the Great cheap Chicago Fire tickets which took place in the year 1871. The club was formed at Navy Pier on one of the anniversaries of the Great Fire, on the 8th of October, 1997. This was the one hundred and twenty sixth anniversary of the event. The initial team consisted of people from several ethnic backgrounds, including numerous Polish athletes such as Roman Kosecki, Jerzy Podbrozny and Piotr Nowak. In addition to that, it also included players from other backgrounds including the Czech Lubos Kubik, and the Mexican Jorge Campos. However, the team flourished mostly due to American players such as C.J. Brown, Chris Armas and Zach Thornton, who proved to be vital to the continues success of the team. Bob Bradley was the first head coach of the team.
Under the leadership of Bob Bradley, the Chicago Fire played their debut season in the year 1998. They performed unexpectedly well during the season, and went on to reach the MLS Cup final in the year 2000. However, they could not manage to win the game, and ended up losing to Kansas City. The same year however, the team won the U.S Open Cup and went on to induct famous athletes into the team, such as Hristo Stoitchkov. In no time, the team became known as one of the leading teams of the league.
The Chicago Fire have white and red as the official colors of the team. However, they have also used other colors over the years such as black, sky blue, and navy blue. The logo of the club is a crest, which was derived from the fire department. The team is known by several nicknames such as The Fire, La Maquina Roja, Men in Red, CF97, and Strazacy, which means firemen. They play their home games at the Toyota Park, which is a huge arena with the capacity to hold approximately twenty thousand people. The team has Frank Klopas as their current head coach and Andrew Hauptman as their Chairman.
