The Villanova Wildcats men's basketball team is coached by Jay Wright. They play at The Pavillion which has a seating capacity of six thousand five hundred. The Wildcats have emerged as the national NCAA Tournament Champions once and have appeared in the NCAA Tournament Final Four on four occasions. They also have twelve NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearances, the last two of which were in 2006 and 2009. The men's basketball program has also appeared in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen sixteen times, the last four of which were in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009.  Overall, the Wildcats have thirty three NCAA Tournament appearances against their name, eighth highest in the history of the NCAA.

 

The Villanova Wildcats men's basketball teams have also won three Conference Tournament Championships and seven Conference Regular Season Championships over the years. They have also appeared seventeen times at the NIT and have won it once. They have often ranked among the top programs in the US on a consistent basis. The Wildcats have spawned twenty two All–Americans, most recently Michael Bradley in 2001, Randy Foye and Allan Ray in 2006 and Scottie Reynolds in 2010. Other players have also won many individual awards. Tim Thomas won the National Freshman of the Year Award, with head coach Jay Wright winning the National Coach of the Year. Two of the team's players, Kerry Kittles and Randy Foye won the Big East Player of the Year Award, with two more winning the Big East Rookie of the Year Award.

 

The Wildcats have a fierce rivalry with the Georgetown Hoyas. They also have rivalries with teams from the St John's University, University of Connecticut, Providence University and Syracuse University. With four other schools, they formed the Philadelphia Big 5 and regularly compete in a round robin City Series. Their rivalry with Saint Joseph's University is so fierce it has been dubbed as the Holy War. Similarly, the women's basketball  program is also one of the finest in the nation. It is coached by Harry Perretta and also plays at The Pavillion. The program has one NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearance to its name, as well as one NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearance. The Wildcats have also five NCAA Tournament second round appearances to show for their efforts over the years. Overall, they have appeared eleven times at the national NCAA/AIAW Tournament, one of the most in the Big East conference.

 

The women's basketball team has seen nine postseason appearances in ten years and has won three Big East Conference Tournament championships. Their coach has  been crowned the Big East Conference Co–Coach of the Year three times and has become the seventh coach in the NCAA to oversee one thousand games at one university. The Wildcats are ready to prowl the courts around the country to show their illustrious reputation is well merited.
