The Utah Jazz's official colors are gold, navy, gray and dark green. It is owned by Gail Miller and Larry H Miller Sports & Entertainment Group of Companies. The team's general manager is Dennis Lindsey with Tyronne Corbin as the head coach. The team's D–League affiliate is the Bakersfield Jam and it has won two Conference titles. The Jazz have also won eight Division titles, the last two of which were won in 2007 and 2008. Nine of the team's numbers have been retired in honor of its players. Many are considered legends today with the likes of Karl Malone and John Stockton being one of the most famous point guard power forward duos in the history of NBA.
During the nineties, the Utah Jazz was also an NBA powerhouse under the leadership of Coach Jerry Sloan and made two NBA Finals appearances. As one of the two pro sports teams in Utah, it has a rich history and heritage behind it. In 1974, they joined NBA as its eighteenth franchise and traded two first round, three second round and one third round pick for star basketball Pete Maravich from the Atlanta Hawks. They first began playing at the Loyola University Fieldhouse and then at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.
Following several seasons in New Orleans, the team moved to Salt Lake City which had previously been the home of the Utah Stars of the American Basketball Association. After the relocation, they traded Spencer Haywood for Adrian Dantley, who would help improve the record of the team. During the 1980 NBA Draft, they had the second overall pick and used it to get Darrell Griffith. Point guard Rickey Green was added to this team of amazing players, leading to a season in which many games were won. During the NBA Draft in 1982, they picked Dominique Wilkins. The next year, they added Bobby Hansen and Thurl Bailey with the 1983 to 1984 season seeing them rising quickly up in the NBA ranks. They also qualified for the NBA Playoffs where they defeated the Denver Nuggets.
The next season saw Mark Eaton emerge as a defensive star, going on to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award. In 1985, Karl Malone joined the team and the team continued to rise through the eighties. During the nineties, the team rose even higher under the tutelage of Coach Jerry Sloan to become a powerhouse in the league. They made it to the playoffs consistently and even played in two NBA Finals, facing Michael Jordan and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Many of this franchise's amazing players have been inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, with Pete Maravich as the first inductee in 1987. Other inductees include Gail Goodrich, Walt Bellamy, Adrian Dantley, Walt Bellamy, Karl Malone, Bernard King and John Stockton. Iconic coach Jerry Sloan has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
A number of Utah Jazz players have won awards.
