As part of the Western Conference’s Pacific Division, the Kings started off as the Royals of Rochester in the mid-forties. As the popularity of the game snowballed and fans started flocking the stands once again post World War II, the team was shifted to Cincinnati. The Royals played out of Cincinnati for nearly two decades and with the drift in players and ownership continuing as it had, the Royals made a move to Kansas. The owners called the Maloof Family, decided to switch not only the name to Kings but also gave the team a brand new uniform. The colors purple and black became synonymous with the newly found Kansas City Kings.

Under his able guidance and experience of years in the game, the Kings would find themselves amidst the crown for which they had waiting so very long.
