The team was originally established in 1995 as the Vancouver Grizzlies in Vancouver, Canada. A number of new players including Mike Miller, Jason Williams and James Posey were added to the squad, and a new head coach, Hubie Brown took over in 2003. Brown’s years of experience in coaching, and hard work with the squad paid off when the Memphis Grizzlies reached the NBA playoffs for the first time in history. Brown earned the NBA Coach of the Year Award in the process and the team finished as the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
