Indoor Lacrosse, also known as Box Lacrosse and shortened to boxla, is an indoor style lacrosse, which is mostly played in North America. The game has its origins in Canada, where it is an extremely popular sport. It has two teams with six player on each team, and is normally played on an ice hockey rink, covering or removing the ice first. The area in which the game is played is called a box. The main object of indoor lacrosse is to catch the ball, carry it using a long-handled racket, and then pass the ball to score by throwing the lacrosse ball, which is made out of solid rubber, to the opponent team's goal. The National Lacrosse League is a professional indoor lacrosse league, which has 10 teams currently. Three are Canadian teams and seven belong to the United States. The NLL always plays its games in winter, unlike the other leagues which play in the summers. The team returned to the National Lacrosse League Championship game on three different occasions, in 1997, 2004, and 2006, since their Championship-winning streak in 1996. However, they lost each time including two times at home. It was not until 2008 that the Bandits managed to win the Championship game again for the fourth time, which was a 14-13 win over Portland.
