Wicked Providence Tickets

Proud winner of three Tony Awards, Wicked, the super hit musical, is based on the 1995 novel “Wicked. The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West ”  by Gregory  Maguire.  Music and lyrics of Wicked the musical are by famed composer Steven Schwartz .

Maguire’s novel, in turn, is  a sort of prequel to the popular novel "Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum, in that it picks up some of the characters and events from Baum’s novel, weaves a different story around them and  focuses on the years prior to the arrival of Dorothy and Toto in the land of Oz. 

The musical and Maguire’s book on which it is based revolves more around  two principal characters, which are  Glinda, a gorgeous blonde and ambitious girl and her friend  Elphaba, the fiery tempered girl born with emerald green skin.  Elphaba is fiery tempered and wicked as she resents being discriminated against due to the color of her skin. Both are students of witchcraft at the Shiz University in the land of Oz.  Both Elphaba and Glinds’s  s characters evolve into  witches in the end but which one becomes a wicked witch and which one becomes a good witch, see that for yourself.

The costumes and set design of this musical are a visual treat and the music is uplifting.

The official premier of Wicked on Broadway was held on October 30^th 2003 and it had uptil 2013 made a total of over 4000 performances in theatres at Australia, Europe and all major cities of the USA and the UK.  This year too the musical is showing to packed houses at theatres in the USA and the UK.
