The narrative elements are from the original source of the plot which is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a classic novel written by L. Frank Baum in 1900. The book of the musical is written by Winnie Holzman and the music is composed by Stephen Schwartz. The musical centers round the story of two witch friends, Elphaba and Glinda, who are complete opposite of one another. Elphaba is the rather devious, misunderstood girl, whose personality stands apart to the norm of society just the way her emerald-green skin does. Glinda on the contrary is a beautiful and likeable blond. The two girls fall in love with the same man which is where the story really begins
