Wicked is a musical that is based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. This is also the same story on which The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is based on. The story in this musical is told from the perspective of the witches in the Land of Oz. The music and lyrics for Wicked are by Stephen Schwartz and the book was written by Winnie Holzmann. The show premiered at the Gershwin Theater on Broadway after tryouts in October 2003. Universal Picture produced it and Jeo Mantello directed it.
