The music of Wicked has been composed by the very talented Stephen Schwartz and the concept has been adapted from several different references. Gregory Maguire's novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" is the most prominent influence. Some of the ideas have also been taken from the classic story "The Wizard of Oz".

Wicked the musical has excelled under the direction of Joe Mantello. His and the production team’s efforts have made the show one of the most popular theatrical productions of all time. The musical has won numerous awards in various categories, be it for costumes, lighting effects, stage design or choreography. The actors have not only been nominated several times but also have had their hands around the popular awards like Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards.  The musical has so far taken away 6 Drama Desk Awards, 3 Tony Awards, 7 Carbonell Awards, a Laurence Olivier Award, a Grammy Award and many more.
