It is such a pleasure to know that our favorite folk/pop diva, Sarah McLachlan’s concert has been scheduled to be held in our city. She is returning to the music scene after a gap of 7 years during which she got married, separated and had two daughters. She has got an exotic and malleable voice, which enchants us with its exquisiteness. She is a multi-talented Canadian singer, musician and an occasional songwriter. Her emotional ballads, unique pitch and voice quality are the trademarks which distinguish her from the others. She has sold more than 400 million albums worldwide up till now and has been awarded Grammy Award and Juno Award several times. Sarah McLachlan is also the founder of the "Lilith Fair Tour" which showcases female music talent. The tour took place from 1997 to 1999 and have resumed back in the summer of 2010. She has released her new album, Laws of Illusions in 2010 in which she has emerged as a more mature and developed singer. You can hear adult emotions of love gained and lost in her voice besides the hard-earned independence, strength of facing reality and celebration of simple joys of life.
Sarah McLachlan has been interested in music from her early childhood. Being raised in Nova Scotia, she took voice lessons along with learning classical piano and guitar. At the age of 17, she fronted the short lived rock band by the name of "The October Game". Her High School Year Book stated that she is "destined to become a famous rock star". She was offered her first recording contract with Vancouver based independent recording label, "Nettwerk" by Moev’s, Mark Jewett, just after her band’s first concert in Dalhousie University. She joined the recording label two years after, as her parents insisted her to finish her high school and college before moving to independent life in Vancouver. She sings in pop and adult contemporary genre.
Her first album Touch was released in 1988 with her famous song Vox and received critical and commercial acclaim. She released another album Solace in 1991, which was a major hit on the Canadian Music Charts. Her next album, Fumbling towards Ecstasy, released in 1993 was an instant success in Canada and with it she paved her way slowly into international music scene. Her best album to date, Surfacing, was released in 1997 and was an instant, smashing hit all over the world, winning her two Grammy Awards, four Juno Awards as well as worldwide recognition. Her "Lilith Fair Tour" was formed in 1996, when Sarah McLachlan became frustrated with the policies of concert promoters, who refused to have two female musicians in a row. She took break for some time, during which she recorded a song for Toy Story 2 and sang a duet with Brian Adams. Her album Afterglow was released in 2003, marking her comeback in the music scene. Another album Winter Break was released in 2006, which was quite a success. Her song One Dream was rumored to be a Winter Olympics contender. Her latest album Laws of Illusion were released in 2010 and she will be touring worldwide for its promotion.
