Michigan Wolverines: A Tradition of Excellence
The Michigan Wolverines are the proud flag-bearers of the sports program run by the University of Michigan. One of the most prestigious varsity sports setups in the country, it comprises of 29 men's and women's teams competing in various divisions of the NCAA, primarily the Big Ten Conference and Division I. All Wolverines' sides are a part of these two divisions, with the exception of the women's water polo outfit that does battle in the NCAA Inter-Divisional Collegiate Water Polo Association. The famous "maize and blue" of the UMich have a distinguished record in college sports; they have won many championships and produced some of the finest athletes that the US has ever seen.

When it comes to sporting achievements and producing top athletes, few varsity programs in the nation can match the University of Michigan. The university's impeccable record of 39 NCAA team titles and 18 non-NCAA national championships puts it high on the list of America's most successful college sporting systems.
Within the NCAA, the UM's Division-I national crowns have been won in 10 different sports. Together with the University of Texas, this is the fourth most diverse championship record of any school, with only Stanford (16), UCLA (16), and USC (15) ahead of the University of Michigan on this count.
Moreover, with a total of 39 titles, the Michigan Wolverines are tenth on the list of teams with the most collegiate national championships. They have also been runners-up on 38 occasions in 13 different sports.
The Wolverines' NCAA titles have come in men's swimming (12), hockey (9), gymnastics (6), baseball (2), trampoline (2), basketball (1), outdoor track & field (1), and tennis (1). On the women's side, the Wolverines have tasted NCAA team glory in softball (2005), gymnastics (2021), and field hockey (2001).
Other national team championships (non-NCAA) include 11 men's football crowns, 12 swimming titles, and 2 golf triumphs.

The famed sports program of the University of Michigan has produced 151 Olympic medalists during its storied history. These include 72 gold medal winners, 39 silver medalists, and 40 bronze medal holders.
