The Start of the Journey
The Kansas City Chiefs started as members of the American Football League (AFL) being initially called the Dallas Texans. The team was renamed the Kansas City Chiefs when it moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1963.
The story of the Kansas City Chiefs starts with Lamar Hunt discussing the prospects of establishing a professional football league in 1959 that could compete against the members of the NFL. It was basically an NFL game between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants in 1958 that increased his desire to create a football team.
Initially, Hunt endeavored to purchase and move the NFL's Chicago Cardinals to Dallas. The attempts however failed, and he then approached the NFL authorities for permission to set up an expansion franchise. The NFL did not entertain Hunt's request who was left with no choice but to establish the American Football League (AFL) with the Dallas Texans as his own team to start play in 1960.
The Success Story
The Kansas City Chiefs have won the following championships over the years:
AFL Championships – 03.
Super Bowls – 02.
Conference Championships – 02.
Division Championships – 14.
The Chiefs enjoyed a lot of success from 1960 to 1969 and won three league championships. By overcoming the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV, the franchise became the second AFL team to beat an NFL team in an AFL-NFL Championship after the New York Jets.
The next time, they won the Super Bowl was in 2019. That season, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 to get their hands on their second Super Bowl title.
They will take another shot at the Vince Lombardi Trophy this year and you can book your Kansas City Chiefs tickets to enjoy the ride, live.
