The Auto Club 400 is a stock car race which is 400 miles in length. Sponsored by Monster Energy, this NASCAR Cup Series is held annually in March at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. The first Auto Club 400 race was held in 1997.
About the Auto Club 400
Before 2005, the Auto Club 400 race used to be held at the end of April or beginning of May. In 2005, the NASCAR Realignment moved the race to February, to be held the week following the Daytona 500. It stayed this way until 2011 when the date was permanently moved to March.
Furthermore, up until 2010, the race used to run a length of 500 miles. NASCAR decided to change the length of the race after seeing how well shortening of the track had turned out in other races such as the Pepsi Max 400 (which previously used to be 500). Therefore, the Auto Club Speedway changed the length of the spring race from 500 miles to 400 miles.
The defending champion of the Auto Club 400 from 2016 is Jimmie Johnson. Who will be crowned the champion in 2017?
The 2017 Auto Club 400 Weekend
Southern California will be hosting the Auto Club 400 Weekend on March 24-26 in 2017. The race has been held at the Auto Club Speedway since it was first started back in 1997. This year is no different; one of the best tracks for NASCAR racing will host this highly anticipated event once again in 2017.
Dave Allen, the President of the Auto Club Speedway, the location of the race, said “Next year’s race will be very special as Auto Club Speedway will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary. Not only has our track aged to perfection and offers top-notch racing action, but we have big plans for our fans to celebrate the history of Southern California motorsports.”
Important Changes for 2017
In 2017, the first round of the race will be held at the Auto Club Speedway. This will be followed by the second race in the Round of 12 in 2017 which will be held at the Talladega Superspeedway. The last and final race in that round will be held at the Kansas Speedway.
All of the exciting races from this event will be broadcast by a number of different networks such as FOX and NBC. A number of radio stations also cover the event including SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, MRN, and PRN.
