Get down on one knee
The university was formed in 1930, and within a year they had also set up a football team. At this time they were merely the Norfolk division of the College of William and Mary, and nobody expected them to have their own team. However, that did not stop their first coach Tommy Scott in doing everything he possibly could to set up a side to challenge all others. They started by playing against small local teams, before facing established sides. Over the next eleven years they gradually improved on the field, yet their off field problems did not, and by 1941 the program had to be scrapped.
After years of attempts, finally in 2009 the football program was reinitiated. They have since been amongst the most consistent sides in college football, and have posted only one losing season record ever since. They have also made it into the NCAA Division one FCS Playoffs twice, making it all the way to the quarterfinals in 2012.
All hail the kings

Their basketball team has made eleven appearances in the NCAA tournament so far and managed to win nine Conference tournament championships, along with six Conference regular season titles. Their baseball team on the other hand has made eight appearances in the NCAA Tournament, winning five conference titles and four Conference tournament championships along the way.
