Yanni was born in Greece as Yiannis Hrysomaillis in 1954 and the most interesting thing about him is that he is a self taught musician and expertly plays Piano, Keyboards and synthesizers. Yanni started learning music by himself from an early age and while studying at the University of Minnesota he joined a talented new band Chameleon and toured some States, while doing his B.A in Psychology he decided to pursue his instincts and opted music as a career. Yanni’s main genre is instrumental in which he fuses different music styles and influences, resulting in the characteristic Yanni music, some term his music as new age but he himself claims that his music is contemporary instrumental. He has released albums under different recording labels over the years such as Private Music/Windham Hill, Virgin Records and image Entertainment. Yanni’s music has been used at different sporting events and also in TV programs.  

Yanni started composing from early 80’s but in the year 1987 he made his own band with fine musicians like Charlie Adams and John Tesh and started live tours to promote his first 3 albums Keys to Imagination, Out of Silence and Chameleon Days. Yanni’s popularity immensely increased when his album Dare to Dream was released in 1992 as this album got Yanni his first ever Grammy nomination, he went on to get yet another Grammy nomination the very next year for his album In My Time. Yanni’s Ultimate fame and success came when he recorded his first ever world famous live album and video Yanni Live at The Acropolis recorded in 1993 at a very famous ancient theater in Athens Greece, the album topped all the Charts and its broadcast was watched by millions of people around the world in 65 countries, In this album Yanni was assisted by a full Orchestra conducted by acclaimed Iranian conductor Shahrdad Rohani.

Yanni kept on climbing the stairs of fame and achieved yet another unique milestone, in 1997 he became one of the few western musicians to be allowed to perform at the world famous historic monument Taj Mahal in India and he also performed at the Forbidden City in China. Performance at these two world renowned venues gave Yanni the required material to release his next live album by the name of Tribune. After a gap of 7 years Yanni released his 10th studio album If I Could Tell You in 2000, in 2003 he released 11th album Ethnicity and went on tour in 2003-04, this album went on to become the 4th largest concert tour of the year. Yanni recently toured the whole of South America and has performed in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Santiago and Buenos Aires. Yanni’s autobiography was published in 2003 and it was co-written by famous author David Rensin and it tells about Yanni’s childhood, his early years at University of Minnesota and it also explores the ways through which Yanni gets inspiration to create music.
