George Lopez is a Mexican American comedian who grew up in the Mission Hills’ neighborhood.  His parents passed away when he was really young and he was raised by his grandmother. Over the years he has emerged as one of the most influential men from the Latino community. He has been given a "Spirit of Liberty award" by People from the American way. Time Magazine has also honored him by including him in their "25 Most Influential Hispanics in America". In 2004, Harvard University awarded him with "Artist of the Year and Humanitarian Award" as well.

Lopez has always been a talented standup comedian since 1983. In the late nineties, his career took a new turn. He started hosting a morning show on the radio from Los Angeles and became one of the first few Latinos to have their own show in the mainstream radio. This was the time when he was being noticed in the acting circles as well and famous actress Sandra Bullock approached him to produce and star in a comedy. She wanted to create a sitcom that featured Hispanics yet the focus of the story not entirely being the Hispanic American community. The show was aired on ABC in 2002 and Lopez’s name was among the very few stars that made their way to the television screen. The show lasted five years on the network and was quite popular for its situational comedy.

Lopez was also involved in a couple of other shows like the famous HBO show, Inside the NFL and ABC’s Nick at the Night. He also appeared in other television series like The Brothers García , Curb your Enthusiasm , Naughty or Nice , Freddie Gets Cross Over , The Naked Brothers Band and Reno 911. He has recently announced his own late night show called Lopez Tonight. Lopez has also got himself noticed in several Hollywood flicks like Ski Patrol, Fatal Instinct, Murder Investigator, Bread and Roses, Real Women Have Curves, The Adventures of Shark Boy, Balls of Fury, Swing Vote, Shannon's Rainbow, The Spy Next Door and Valentine’s Day. He has also lent his voice to the film version of old time cartoon series Smurfs and he is going to be playing Grouchy Smurf in the movie.

He has been appreciated at various film festivals for his superior acting including the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival. He also received the Audience Award in 2002 for his performance in HBO drama Real Women Have Curves. He has also been the host of prestigious award ceremonies like the Latin Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards.
His stand up comedy career has been quite prolific as well.
