A pair of them went gold, besides charting in the top-fifty on Billboard 200. With Wilson's wide vocal range being the distinct hallmark of the band's songs, almost two dozen of them went top-forty on the US R&B chart, with four #1 singles, namely, "Burn Rubber on Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)," "Early in the Morning" "Outstanding" and "All of My Love".

Before he immersed himself wholeheartedly in his solo career, Charlie Wilson released his debut solo album You Turn My Life Around in 1992 and saw it peak at the 42nd spot on the US R&B albums chart. Its single "Sprung on Me" became a US R&B top-40 hit. His 2000 record Bridging the Gap was released jointly under Major Hits Records and UMVD and charted on Billboard 200, climbing to 30 on the US R&B chart. The album scored another top-40 hit in "Without You," which also topped the Urban Adult Contemporary chart. The following three albums, namely 2006's Charlie, Last Name Wilson, 2009 Uncle Charlie and 2010's Just Charlie all went top-ten on the US R&B chart, with the first also breaking into the top-ten slot on Billboard 200. Uncle Charlie not only became Charlie Wilson's first US R&B chart topper but also peaked at the 2nd spot on Billboard 200. Interestingly, the legendary ;laidback rapper Snoop Dogg also already referred to him as "Uncle Charlie" and had collaborated with him back in 2000 on Bridging the Gap. In his last three albums, Charlie scored five top-twenty R&B hits, most notably "There Goes My Baby" whose video also featured Snoop Dogg.

Charlie Wilson has collaborated with many prominent R&B and hip artists of the last two decades, including Kanye West, Boyz II Men, Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Pharell and of course Snoop Dogg. Charlie has earned six Grammy nominations and had two of his songs, namely "There Goes My Baby" and "You Are" were named the "#1 Urban Adult Song for 2009" and "#2 Urban Adult Song for 2011" respectively by Billboard magazine.
