The Last Ship Tickets

The Last Ship is a musical by the singer and songwriter, Sting. This new musical has comfortably found a berth on Broadway. The producer of the show, Jeffrey Seller rightly says that the story of the musical is inspired from Sting’s childhood memories of being raised in a ship-building community in northeast England. Opening this summer, a series of performances are scheduled at the Bank Of America Theatre. The venue has previously hosted renowned musicals such as High School Musical, Jersey Boys and Kinky Boots. The Last Ship tickets just went on sale. Good seats tend to run out quickly, so reserve good seats for your friends and family by getting them at the earliest.

About The Last Ship

The storyline revolves around a man who belongs to a seafaring town. With the passion to achieve big dreams in life, he leaves his hometown to travel the world. After fourteen years he returns and finds out that the shipyard is in danger and that the love of his life is now engaged to someone else. Sting grew up in northeast England and dedicated four years of his life to work on the play. However the musical is not exactly autobiographical. It is more of an emotional autobiography. The musical is deeply inspired by Sting’s youth and his experiences and emotions, emotions that all of us deal with, as we grow older.

The musical’s story is co penned by John Logan, who is the playwright of “Red” and Brian Yorkey-writer, who penned the play “Next to Normal”. Joe Mantello, the director of the hit musical “Wicked”, is directing this production. The creative choreography of the show is the work of Steven Hoggett who has showcased his skills in “Once” as well. The costume and set designs are done by Tony Award nominee David Zinn. Tony Award winners Christopher Akerlind and Brian Ronan handle the lighting design and sound design respectively. The Last Ship tickets are now selling for a series of performances scheduled at Bank of America Theatre this summer.

The show features protagonist Michael Esper who made acclaimed Broadway appearances in “The Lyons” and “American Idiot” along with the Irish singer Rachel Tucker who has appeared in “Wicked”. The musical also presents accomplished artists such as Aaron Lazar, Collin Kelly-Sordelet, Fred Applegate, Jimmy Nail and Sally AnnTriplett.

Sixteen times Grammy Award winner Sting previously worked as the lead singer of the band called ‘The Police’. The inspiration of the musical comes from an album he released last year by the name “The Last Ship”. As per Seller, the CD compilation is a singular expression of the play but it is not actually the play. Many of the songs which are on the show are not on the CD and vice versa. Sting brought in new songs for the play. Sting’s interest to step into the musical theatre category comes from all those pop rock singers-songwriters who are now aiming for the live stage. Sting has now joined the list of such artists that include Cyndi Lauper, Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, David Byrne, Dave Stewart and more.

This theatre territory has been very tricky, even for the biggest music artists. Elton John faced failure with “Lestat” but rose to success with “The Lion King” and “Billy Elliot”. After several delayed openings, U2’s Bono and The Edge finally hit it off with “Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark”. “Kinky Boots” earned Lauper the Tony Award. Seller praises the talents of Sting as an artist who has in depth knowledge of music. He further explains Sting has been an extraordinary collaborator and an extraordinary student of musical theater. Do visit the venue to enjoy the work of this legendary artist and enjoy his work with your friends and family.
