Priscilla Queen of the Desert Broadway musical tells the story of a transsexual and two drag queens. As the story unfolds, the trio signs a contract to perform a drag show in Alice Springs. Alice Springs happens to be a resort town located within a remote Australian desert, and Priscilla is the name of their tour bus. The trio embark on their tour bus from Sydney, and on their way to Alice Springs, they are confronted with various peculiar characters along the way. As they move along they face different errors as well, and at that point the musical takes a comedic turn. All through the performance, the musical also explores homophobia at times. The original production of the musical debuted back in 2006 in Sydney, and the original Australian production was headed by Simon Phillips as its director, who was also the artistic director at the Melbourne Theatre Company, and Ross Coleman as its choreographer. The original Australian production of the musical was produced by Allan Scott, who also collaborated with Michael Hamlyn, John Frost, Michael Chugg and the Back Row Productions. Priscilla The Queen of the Desert originally debuted at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney. But later the musical was transferred to Melbourne the following year as it had a successful run at the Lyric Theatre. The Sydney production of the musical ran for almost a year at the Lyric Theatre and it starred Daniel Scott, Tony Sheldon, Michael Caton and Jeremy Stanford.
 
Musical’s previews at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne started off on September 28, 2007 and officially it started it run their on October 6, 2007. The Melbourne production ran up till the following year till the month of April. After Melbourne, musical ran for a brief amount of time in Auckland New Zealand. For its second anniversary celebrations, Priscilla Queen of the Desert made its way back to the Sydney in October 2008. In the second run, Scott and Sheldon reprised their roles.
 
After causing enough stir in Australia and New Zealand, the musical was finally scheduled to be premiered at Broadway. But before that, its pre-Broadway tryouts were carried out in Toronto at the Princess of Wales Theatre. With a number of modifications to the original production, musical’s run at the Princess of Wales theatre concluded after twelve weeks of performances.
