Hedwig and the Angry Inch is an everyday story of betrayal and the quest to find true love. This hilariously witty rock musical is about transgender Hansel Schmidt who is from communist East Berlin. The journey of Hansel is about fighting the misfortunes of life and becoming Hedwig Robinson. The heartfelt story of Hedwig is narrated to the audience in a monologue. The story tells about Hansel, who was stuck in East Berlin until the encounter with the US soldier Luther Robinson. They both fall in love and decide to get married. Things don’t turn out as expected so the protagonist sets off on a journey to find true love and travels across the Berlin Wall to do that. The concept behind the stage production is that the audience sees the character of Hedwig stalking rock star Tommy Gnosis’s tour across the country. Telling the story in cafés and restaurants and performing to sold-out crowds becomes a norm for Hedwig. The lead singer of the band, The Angry Inch stays on stage for the entire duration of the musical including the character of the resentful Yitzhak. Hedwig’s endearing love for philosophy is rightly described in the song “The Origin of Love”. The soundtrack is based on the Aristophanes' speech in Plato's Symposium. The song describes the existence of three sexes of human beings referred to as "children of the sun", "children of the earth" and "children of the moon". Eleven rock songs by Stephen Trask adds brilliance to the musical. His musical compositions are steeped into the glam rock era of seventies. Other popular compositions of the musical include "The Angry Inch", "Wig in a Box", "Wicked Little Town", "The Long Grift", "Hedwig's Lament" and more.
