Based on Little Orphan Annie, a comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie first made to the Broadway in 1977 and opened for the public at the then Alvun Thetare where it ran for around six year, setting a record for the theater. The original iconic production won many awards including six Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards. It was adopted by the West End a year later and went on its first North American tour the same year. The musical was first revived by Broadway in 1997 and later in 2013. The new incarnation was directed by Martin Charnin, the original lyricist with music by Liza Gennaro.
