It presents her history in the form of an enchanting play that kicks off with Ann Richards shown giving an address as part of the commencement of a college in which the governor tells of her story and her early years. The play then starts off and continues in this format; it is made even more sensational by the superb acting of Holland Taylor who perfectly portrays Ann Richards in each way and even speaks in an accent that is nearly identical to that of the iconic Texan governor. The play then goes on to tell the audience about the early years of Ann Richards under a doting father who never failed to praise her and a strict mother; her father helped empower her whereas her mother helped build a woman with backbone who could handle everything life brought her way.
The play then goes to focus on the event and time in the life of Ann Richards that changed her life. This was when Ann Richards moved to the state of California with her mother and family after her father was called into the US Navy. It then tells the story of this amazing governor who never veered away from a challenge but faced it head on. One of the best moments in the play is when Ann Richards, portrayed by Holland Taylor, speaks of what motivated her to run for elections as a governor.
Ann Richards was the 45th Governor of the US state of Texas, a position she held from 1991 to 1995. Before that, she had been the Travis County Commissioner from 1977 to 1983. She was born in Lakeview within Texas in 1933 and passed away in 2006 at the age of seventy three; she was buried in the city of Austin within the state of Texas. By profession, Ann Richards was a teacher and came into public spotlight when she became the state treasure of the state of Texas and delivered the iconic address at the Democratic National Convention in 1988. Over the course of her political career, Ann Richards became renowned for championing a number of causes and for being one of the greatest governors her state and the entire US had seen. To this point, she has been widely featured in popular culture and even had a role in the TV series, King of the Hill.
