Dorothy Alexander was a visionary dancer and took up as the director of the Ballet Company in 1940s. Earlier the company was called ‘Atlanta Civic Ballet’, it was the time when Robert Barnett; a performer from the New York City Ballet joined as the principal dancer and an associate director. Dorothy left the company after 30 years and it was then led by John McFall. Under the guidance of McFall Atlanta Ballet flourished and developed rapidly. Now focusing not only on ballet performances, the company has also taken up some dance related educational projects. In 2005 Atlanta Ballet established partnership with Kennesaw State University and the objective of this venture was to provide a suitable venue for dance education. It’s the sixth- largest dance school in the nation now. The company has also developed ‘Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’.
