The novel also focuses on the history of France, its politics, justice, religion and even architecture of Paris. The novel thus can be categorized as historical fiction as it is an amalgamation of both history and factual events thus striking those times.

The famous musical based on the same novel Les Miserables composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg, a French composer has won the hearts of many around the globe. It is the third show that ran for the longest period of time in the Broadway, while 2010 was the twenty sixth year of its production. Having played over ten thousand performances in London alone, the musical has performed way beyond our expectations. In 2010, it marked a history of being the only show that had three consecutive productions running in the same city. The musical has a plot that has been adopted from Victor Hugo’s novel of the same name. This ensemble portrays prostitutes, factory workers, and revolutionary student leagues.

Les Miserables Atlanta is now hoping for the same great response as it had in London’s West End. This Tony Award winning musical had the eminent score I Dreamed a Dream sung alone by Fantine, the character in its first act. The song won huge popularity and became the lip-sing of all and sundry. The first musical stage adaptation of Les Miserables was released in 1980 at the Paris sports arena. This French language concept album had a limited three months contract that resulted in the end of first production.

In 1982, producer Cameron Mackintosh got the copy of Les Miserables, which he thought should be translated and produced for the British audience. Thus he worked on it for two years hoping to hit the audience with immense appeal. Unfortunately it went against his desires as critics condemned it and literary scholars were not pleased with the idea of turning a classical literature into a musical. The public had a different opinion from the press as the ticket sales reached a soaring record. The show opened in Broadway in 1987 and ran till 2003 thus giving more than 6,500 performances. For its unmatched performance, it was nominated for Tony Award thus winning eight of them.

As the musical and novel differ in time setting, the characters thus show several discrepancies too. Some characters have longer descriptions but in the musical they had minimal show on stage. In 1995, the musical performed its tenth anniversary by holding a concert at Royal Albert Hall. This show also became memorable as Les Miserables Dream Cast for its unmatched cast members. The show also had three national touring productions in US. They had the chance to share the costumes, sets, cast, crew, manager and lighting with Broadway. Both New York Productions and The National Touring production contributed in bringing the best of Les Miserables to the musical lovers. In 2010, the fourth US tour company made a national tour thus presented as Broadway Across America to mark the 25th anniversary of the show.

The tour is now planning to run through 2011, thus bringing Broadway and its fabulous musicals all around the US embarking twenty cities in the first stage.
