The Pittsburgh Steelers came into existence in 1933 and are the oldest franchise in the American Football Conference (AFC) of the NFL. Apart from their 6 Super Bowl triumphs, the Steelers have won 24 division championships and 8 conference titles while playing in the AFC. The 70s were by far their most successful decade in terms of trophies and major honors.

Led by Hall of Fame QB Terry Bradshaw, the Steelers won the Super Bowl 4 times during this period with back-to-back triumphs in 1974 and 1975. The other two Super Bowl wins came in 1978 and 1979. In addition, 7 Division championships and 4 Conference titles rounded up the team’s trophy haul during the 70s. This remains one of the most dominant dynasties the NFL has ever seen.

The Steelers have been owned by the prominent Rooney family since the franchise’s inception. Art Rooney, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Olympic qualifier boxer, was the first owner of the team. The baton has been passed down over the years to the next generation of the family.
