Their first performance was at a local bar for transvestite, but soon they were recording their debut album. No one said that it was an easy road; the biggest obstacle was a series of drummers in and out of the band. The band found Richard English and was finally at peace, ready to make their debut in the industry with their self-titled album. Their album Here It Is was nothing like their music we hear today. It doesn’t have the Flaming Lips surreal effect; it is more like raunchy punk rock bar fun rather than the sci-fi, beach tunes. In a year their sophomore album Oh My Gawd was out in the market. Things got serious this time bending over Psychedelic Rock. The album featured songs with Evil Knievel and Explosions. This was the beginning of the Experimenter Wayne Coyne with a vision in his mind. The band released a couple of Psychedelic albums in this stride Hit to Death in the Future Head, In a Priest Driven Ambulance and Telepathic Surgery. These albums placed the band in the running of being the critics’ favorite. The release of Transmissions from the Satellite Heart was their debut in the US music charts.

Their eighth studio album Zaireeka was the paradigm shift in their entertainment philosophy. Their music now incorporates Boom Box beats and surround sound. The album attracted attention of critics and the audiences in general. All Music was of the view that it is a treat for Flaming Lips fans. Rolling Stones gave four stars to this album. The band was doing well with a cult following, who enjoyed the same style in their albums. In 2006, the band came up with Embryonic which was the biggest hit of the band ever. The album was among the top ten hits on the major charts.
