Born & Bred in Georgia
Born Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph on October 22, 1992, Savage is sometimes also referred to as ?The Slaughter King?. From an early age Savage got himself into trouble. In seventh grade Savage was expelled for bringing a gun to school. This was after he was threatened by some of the kids there. The expulsion was a turning point for this artist. He started taking part in illegal activities that ranged from weed and crack to robberies. This resulted in a stint in Juvenile detention. With his trouble with the law, tragedy came knocking in 2013. Savage?s younger brother and best friend were killed in a deal gone bad. Savage himself was shot six times with one bullet going through his neck. Savage turned a corner after this incident and he started taking an interest in music. However this time he armed himself with a Macbook and microphone for a change. And the result was his debut mix tape ?Slaughter Tape? in 2015.
Debut Mix tapes & Collaborations
With no marketing plan in tow, Savage released his debut mix tape ?Slaughter Tape? in 2015. He accomplished this with no prior experience in producing music. The raw intensity of Savage caught the attention of major rappers such as Meek Mill, Young Thug and Future. This gave Savage the right platform to launch his musical career. Savage?s entrance into the music industry, however, wasn?t exactly in 2015. On November 21, 2014 Savage?s debut single ?Picky? was released. The single was produced by DJ Plugg which also became a part of his debut mix tape Slaughter Tape. Free Guwop, a collaborative EP with Sonny Digital was released on July 02, 2015. Free Guwop was dedicated to Gucci Mane, an artist Savage has cited as one of his inspirations.
On December 01, 2015, Savage released his second mix tape Slaughter King. Kd Beatz produced a music video for one of the songs ?Dirty K?. After being named as one of the Freshman Class of 2016 by XXL, Savage hit the mainstream by releasing his joint EP Savage Mode with Atlanta based record producer Metro Boomin. This EP gave Savage the right international exposure and reached number 44 on the Billboard 200. Savage Mode became the duo?s highest charting EP to date. One of his singles ?X? that featured the artist Future went platinum. This consequently became Savage?s first platinum record. After the success of Savage Mode, Savage was signed by Epic Records on January 18, 2017. Since Savage?s success on the Billboard charts, the artist has given many interviews and regularly updates his social media accounts, particularly Instagram.
Collaboration with Drake
Savage has also collaborated with Canadian rapper Drake. The artist was featured on one of Drake?s track ?Sneakin? from his upcoming playlist More Life. The track charted nationally at 28 on the Billboard Top 100 (US), at number 8 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (US) and at number 7 on the US Rap Songs. Internationally, the song reached 81 on the ARIA Charts (AUS), number 20 on the Canadian Hot 100 and at number 52 on the UK Singles Charts. Apart from professional collaborations, Savage and Drake are good friends. Their friendship became apparent when Drake bought Savage a Ferrari for his 24th birthday. Success and friendship with Drake was miles away from his early days on the streets of Atlanta, a fact Savage has recognized himself.
Even though, a sometimes contentious figure, Savage has come a long way. With a signed contract with a major record label, Savage is now on his way to bigger and better things. If you?re a fan of the Hip-Hop and Trap genre then 21 Savage tickets are what you should be looking for.
