Carole King, whose life the musical follows, is an American singer and songwriter from Manhattan who is famous mostly for the pop songs she wrote and sung. A pianist as well, she has been active since 1958 and has released her music under record labels such as Rockingale, EMI Records, Epic and CBS Records. She also played music with the likes of James Taylor, The City, Neil Sedaka and Danny Kortchmar. During the sixties, she rose to fame as the songwriter behind some of the biggest hit songs of her time. Her first written song to top the charts was the Number One single, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, which she wrote when she was just eighteen years old.

She is also the Most Successful Female Songwriter on the UK Singles Chart. As a singer, she has recorded twenty five albums and held the record for the Most Weeks at Number One by an album.
