Preaching the Message of Lord
It was the idea of Joel Osteen's father who pursued his son to become a preacher. After years of declining, he finally gave in and accepted his father's suggestion. On January 23, 1999, his dad, John Osteen passed away which led to him preaching regularly and soon, he became the new senior pastor of Lakewood Church.
In 2003, Lakewood Church acquired the former home of the NBA Houston Rockets Compaq Center and renovated the site, building five stores to extend the seating capacity. A couple of years later, the grand opening of the church was attended by 50,000 people including Nancy Pelosi and Rick Perry.
Joel Osteen's sermons soon started to be televised. Over the years, his sermons have been seen by more than 10 million people in the United States alone. He became so influential that even Barack Obama invited him and his family to an Easter breakfast at the White House in 2010.
Success As An Author
In 2004, Joel Osteen authored his first book, 'Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential.' Three years later, he put out his second book, 'Become a Better You: 7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day.' Both of these books topped The New York Times Best Seller List. He has since released thirteen books more.
