Elf: The Musical is based on Elf, a 2003 motion picture by Jon Favreau. The musical adaptation first opened on Broadway in 2010 at the Al Hirschfeld Theater. It was a limited holiday run that closed in January 2011 after 57 regular shows.
The musical went on its first North American tour in 2012. It was a mini-tour that included performances in selective cities in the holiday season. It went on a national tour again in 2013. In 2014, two tours will start, including a non-equity national tour as well as an international tour.
The story of the musical revolves around an orphan kid, Buddy, who has reached North Pole after mistakenly crawling into the Santa’s bag of gifts. Raised as an elf, he lives with Santa for years, unaware that he is a normal human being. It’s his enormous size that makes everyone realize that Buddy isn’t really an elf. To find his real family and identity, he leaves the North Pole with Santa’s permission and embarks on a journey to the New York City.

The Story of Buddy the Elf
The story if Buddy is not new – an orphan kid who accidently ends up crawling into Santa’s sack. He ends up in North Pole where he’s raised by Santa and the Elf family, believing that he’s Elf himself. Finally, Santa breaks the news to him that he’s actually a human and with his permission, Buddy decided to look for his real parents. Instead of being a simple plot of family reunion, Elf – The Musical is packed with twists and turns in which Buddy faces many challenges during his trip to New York City. Embarking on an adventurous journey that includes finding his parents to rejection to rekindling holiday spirit in people, Buddy has his hands full all through the run.
