Five Ways Elf the Musical is Different from the Movie it is Adapted from
Over the years, Elf the Musical has become beloved favorite holiday season hit aimed at family audiences. Washington Post proclaimed that the musical is like the 2003 hit movie starring Will Ferrell but “noisier and faster.” While it retains most of the major plot points, the musical deviates from its movie counterpart in some respects. Here are the five aspects where the musical differs from the movie version.
- The story in the movie is said to have begun thirty years ago but in the musical it is said to have begun three years ago so no age limit can be placed on the actor playing Buddy.
- Buddy’s real name is revealed to be William early on in the movie version, but the musical holds off that revelation until Buddy meets Walter, Emily and Michael, his human family.
- In the movie, Buddy is raised among the elves by Papa Elf who narrates his story. In the musical, Buddy’s tale is narrated by Santa Claus.
- The musical also has an added subplot about Buddy’s step-brother Michael’s disbelief in Santa.
- Another obvious difference is that there are a lot of musical numbers in the stage adaptation of Elf. They are fast and loud and add an extra bit of pizzazz to the story.
People familiar with the movie and those who are not, all will find something to enjoy in this entertaining musical so get Elf the Musical Atlanta tickets before they run out.
