WWE – A Professional Wrestling Juggernaut
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), traces its roots back to the days of Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which was incepted in the year 1952. The founders of the company were Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt. In 1963, the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) was formed.
Vince McMahon bought the company from his father Vincent J. McMahon in 1983 and renamed it World Wrestling Federation. Vince first made it a national promotion and then gradually turned it into a global phenomenon by attracting the best talent, introducing weekly shows and, coming up with pay-per-view events.
Weekly WWE Shows
The World Wrestling Entertainment has three major weekly shows now.
Raw
The first weekly show aired by the WWE was Raw and it debuted on January 11, 1993. The original show’s duration was sixty minutes and it had a groundbreaking concept. Normally, at that time, wrestling shows were taped beforehand but Raw was shot in front of a live audience. It wasn’t broadcasted live but everything happened in front of a live audience. It has now become the most legendary weekly show in professional wrestling history and is now aired live as well.
SmackDown
In 1999, Vince McMahon decided to add another flagship weekly show to the schedule and the result was WWE SmackDown. The show debuted on April 29, 1999 and was aired on Thursday nights. It is now broadcasted on Friday nights. SmackDown played a big part in reshaping the professional wrestling landscape and cement WWE’s status as the premier professional wrestling company in the world.
NXT
WWE NXT made its debut on February 23, 2010 and is broadcasted on Wednesday nights. The show provides the stage for the best young wrestlers in the company to show their talents and earn an opportunity to make the jump to the main shows, Raw and SmackDown. NXT has its own loyal fan base and it has become an extremely popular attraction for professional wrestling fans around the US.
The Four Big Pay-Per-Views
