Known simply as The American, it stars the best athletes in the world who compete for a mind-blowing two million dollars, the largest payout on a single day in the history of rodeo. The event features the top ten rodeo athletes in the world, who are seen each year live by the many who order The American Rodeo tickets.

Qualifying for The American Rodeo is highly competitive, since it features the best of the best. Each year, five qualifiers are selected by the sanctioning bodies Pro Roughstock Series, the Professional Bull Riders, the Better Barrel Racers, the United States Team Roping Championships, and the Ultimate Calf Roping. Each of these competitions already feature some of the most competitive ropers and rodeo athletes in the world, who then compete against each other for a shot at a spot in The American, the Super Bowl of rodeo sports.

It is made up of several sensational events, with each event winner receiving one hundred thousand dollars and runners-up receiving twenty-five thousand dollars. A one million dollar large purse, called the side pot, is also separated for the qualifiers. The qualifier who beats all other athletes and also wins their event then goes home with a smashing one million dollars.

The American is organized by RFD–TV in partnership with the sanctioning bodies. It is a unique one-day rodeo, the only event of its kind, and has led to much popularity of the sport. The American has been credited with opening rodeo up to a bigger audience, much like tennis and golf. It is, after all, an event that features the top rodeo and bull riding champions in the world, all competing against each other for a shot at what is the greatest one-day payout in the history of sports.

The event was announced by Dr. Robert Cluck, Mayor of Arlington; Stephen Jones, COO of the Dallas Cowboys; and RFD–TV. It is set to be held in Arlington, Texas. Its doors will not only be open to the best cowboys and cowgirls, but also fans and visitors who have purchased The American Rodeo tickets.
