Texas Stars Cities
The origins of the Texas Stars can be traced all the way back to the days of another franchise, the Louisville Panthers, established in 1999. The Panthers went under just after two years, but came back four years later as the Iowa Stars, an affiliate of the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers. Iowa won the playoffs in only their second season. The affiliation with the Dallas Stars came to a close in 2008, and Dallas started to send their players to other AHL teams. The franchise then changed their name to the Iowa Chops in the 2008-2009 season. April 2009 turned out to be a historic year when the AHL made the Texas Stars a limited member, which was to be made permanent if they bought another team within a time frame of one year. The Texas Stars duly completed that obligation by buying the Iowa Chops on 4th May 2010.
The Texas Stars' first season in the league was more successful than anyone imagined. They went on to capture second spot in the West Division table to qualify for the playoffs. In the playoff series, they came face to face with Rockford and beat them to go all the way to the division finals. In the finals, they faced off against Chicago and edged that series by a score of 4-3 in their favor to capture their first division title in their debut season. The team was on a serious roll that season and took it a step further by getting their hands on the coveted Robert W. Clarke Trophy to be crowned their conference champions. The conference-division double in the first season was a stupendous achievement that signaled the arrival of the Texas Stars with a bang. Another playoff appearance followed in the next season, but unfortunately they couldn’t get past the Milwaukee Admirals in the first round.
The Texas Stars are now affiliates of the Dallas Stars and have established a roster that has a very good mixture of youth and experience. Two playoff appearances in two years, coupled with one division and conference title each in such a short space of time, is a sure sign of intent by this team from Texas. They won’t give up until they reach the very top, which, by the looks of things, won’t be too far away. Fans' support will count for a lot, so grab your Texas Stars tickets now and root for your team to help them get to the top of the podium.
