The Texas Stars were established in 2009 and are currently the top affiliate side of the NHL’s Dallas Stars. They came into being after the former Iowa Stars ended their affiliation with the NHL side from Dallas in 2008 and changed their name. Thus, the newly-created Texas Stars made their AHL debut in 2009.

Since then, the team has gone from strength to strength. A successful first season brought the Stars their maiden Division crown after they prevailed over the Chicago Wolves in seven games. The Milwaukee Admirals were originally formed in 1970 as an amateur side. Upon inception, they were known as the “Milwaukee Wings.” Since 1998, they have been affiliated with the NHL’s Nashville Predators. In the past, the Admirals have also been affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers and the ECHL’s Florida Everblades.

Since joining the AHL, the side from the Cream City have won 5 Division titles, 2 Conference crowns and 1 Calder Cup. Before that, the Admirals won 4 Division championships in the old IHL.
