The Bulldogs have developed a reputation based on their competitive streak and their never-say-die attitude. The Bulldog team is famous for punching above their weight and is known to be capable of causing upsets on any given day. The team endured a lean patch during the decade from 1989 to 2000. During this time, the win-loss-draw record of the Bulldogs was 86-53-1.

However, after the appointment of Mark Richt as head coach in 2001, the Bulldogs have been able to turn over a new leaf. Winning two SEC championships in 4 tries, the overall win-loss record of the team has also improved. The overall record now stands at 106-36 and it is even more impressive in Bowl games with 7 wins against 3 losses. Overall, the Bulldogs have clinched two football national championships and 12 SEC championships. In addition to this, two Bulldog players have won the Heisman Trophy.
