Since the year 1912, the University of Florida is a chartered member of the South Eastern Conference. The overall athletic program that is being offered by the university is one of the best athletic programs and is ranked among the toppers for the last two decades. The Gators have the honor of being among the top ten teams every year for the past twenty years, in the National All Sports Rankings. They also have the honor of winning the Southeastern Conference All Sports trophy almost every year since it came into picture. Out of the twenty one teams, twenty of them compete in the eastern division of the SEC. Since its emergence a century back; the Gators have won around twenty four National Team Championships. The individual athletes have honored the university with more than 200 individual NCAA National Championships. Men’s teams have won the National Championships for football, basketball, golf, swimming and diving, and indoor track and field. The Lady Gators have won National Championships more than men.  They have made their name in the sports including Golf, Soccer, Gymnastics, Indoor track and field, Swimming and Diving and Tennis.

The team adopted orange and blue colors in the year 1910 and continues to use the same colors to date. The official mascot "Albert and Alberta" also wear orange and blue costumes, it was chosen as the official mascot as the state of Florida is popular for its alligators.  The fight song titled as "The Orange and The Blue" is very popular among the Florida Nation. The Gators sports teams have on campus facilities for all the sports. Individual grounds for all the sports lie in the vicinity of the university. Both the women and men teams are extremely competitive and have been playing excellent sports since it has come into the picture. Unlike other universities, Florida Gators have more women teams than men’s. No other university has such a strong and diverse athletic program
