Hip Hop has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the seventies. The burgeoning underground music scene in New York at the time led to the birth of this world famous music genre, and countless legends have kept the tradition alive ever since. Starting with Grandmaster Flash, all the way to Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, rap music has thrived. Now artists like Travis Scott are taking it to the very next level.
Lacing up the Boots
Jacques Webster was born in 1992 in Houston Texas. His father ran his own business, while his mother worked for Apple Inc. Their busy schedules resulted in Webster spending a lot of his time at his grandmother?s house. He developed interest in music at an early age and started learning how to play the drums when he was just three years old. He later moved on to the piano and his love for hip hop would not develop till he was sixteen years old.
He started to produce his own beats and write original rap songs. He practiced with various instruments and when he finally deemed himself ready, he decided to approach his friend Chris Holloway. The two friends decided to collaborate together and formed a group called the ?Graduates.? They released their debut Extended Play (EP) on the social networking website MySpace.
Around that time, Webster also began to attend the University of Texas (UT) and that is where he met another rapper named OG Chess. In 2010 they decided to form a duo and named themselves the Classmates. By the next year they had managed to release two EPs, titled ?Buddy Rich? and ?Cruis?n USA,? both of which were produced by Jacques. However, this collaboration did not last too long as the pair developed differences and decided to go their different ways. Soon after, Webster dropped out of university and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a hip hop start on a full time basis.
The Journey Begins
By the time he got to Los Angeles, Webster had adopted his stage name, Travis Scott as a tribute to his uncle who he had always admired and looked up to. Scott has plenty of ideas in his head and that led him to approach Mike Waxx who helped him record and release most of his early material. One song in particular, ?Lights (Love Sick)? caught the attention of the experienced rapper T.I. who invited him to his studio and would later collaborate on a few songs with him as well.
Through T.I., Scott met Kanye West?s sound engineer who introduced the two in New York. West soon signed the young artist to his GOOD Music production company and helped him release his first official EP, ?Owl Pharaoh? in 2013.
Getting Down to Work
The EP was a mild success and two singles from the record were released as well, with ?Upper Echelon? making it to number forty five on the US Rap music charts. The next year, Scott released his second official EP, titled ?Days Before Rodeo? as a precursor to his first official album, which came out in 2015.
Called ?Rodeo,? it made it to number one on the US Rap music charts and number three on the Billboard music charts. Two singles from this album, ?3500? and ?Antidote? were released as well. The former made it to number eighteen on the US Rap charts and number eighty two on the Billboard charts. However the latter would perform even better, getting to number seven on the US Rap music charts and number twenty four on the Billboard charts.
Now this up and coming superstar is heading out on tour, which will take him all over the country much to the delight of his fans that have been waiting to see him the stage. If you want to watch this talented artist for yourself and want to be part of the ride, then get your Travis Scott tickets and enjoy the concert, live.
